Announcing: Pradeep's photonics blog!

Friends, I had mentioned some time ago that I shall start blogging about photonics -- another subject close to my heart!

That dream has been realized, thanks to Photonics.com -- the world's leading site on the subject, from Laurin Publishing, USA.

Announcing: Pradeep's Thoughts -- Photonics in Asia!

How many of you are aware that some of the best work done in photonics in Asia is carried out in India? Are you aware that one of the best institutes in the country is located down south –- in Cochin –- known as the International School of Photonics at Cochin University of Science and Technology.

It is in this very institute that the Photonics Society of India (PSI) was founded in 2000, which also administers the society. The PSI is a professional organization of people, institutions and companies working with photonics in India.

The PSI has some very distinguished gentlemen at the helm. Professor P. Radhakrishnan, International School of Photonics, is its president. He is assisted by Dr. Reji Philip, vice president, and associate professor, Optics Group, Raman Research Institute, Bangalore. Professor V. P. N. Nampoori, International School of Photonics, is general secretary.

It was a pleasure to recently visit the famous Raman Research Institute (RRI) in Bangalore, where I had the good fortune of interacting with some of the best and renowned researchers India has on this subject.

The various kinds of equipment the RRI has at the labs is simply mind boggling! Makes you wonder -- these folks are really bright and highly talented to be doing such exemplary work.

May I take this opportunity to thank Laurin Publishing for helping me realize another dream. I hope you all enjoy my Photonics Blog! Thanks for your support, as always, dear friends.

Announcing PC's Electronic Components Blog

Welcome to PC's Electronic Components Blog!

Hi friends, in my quest to expand my network of blogs and sites, I have started this blog on electronic components.

Since my background is essentially in the B2B technology space, largely dealing with electronics and components, it is natural for me to roll out this blog. My journey in this specialist industry started way back in 1992-93 when I was the India writer for Asian Sources Electronic Components, thanks to my very dear friend, the late Ms. Rashmi Bhushan. I remain forever indebted to her for introducing me to this line! In those days, there was no Internet or email, and well, no literature to read about all of those components and products.

I remember distinctly, the first company I'd interviewed was L&T during a lighting show at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, during a chilly winter afternoon. It was also my first instance of interacting with buyers of electronic components.

Later, as some of you may know, I had the privilege of being part of Global Sources, as well as Electronics Business Asia and Electronics Manufacturing Asia -- both at Reed Elsevier.

At Global Sources, I had the privilege of being the judge for the New Products Gallery at the spring and fall China Sourcing Fairs during 2006, thanks to the great confidence shown in me by my superiors -- Mark Saunderson and Alfred Cheng. I spent hours with another colleague, Ms Amber Ip, in evaluating rooms full of products. Later, my Bureau team mates -- Jambi Reyes and Darius Musni assisted me in this massive exercise.

There are some great team mates from other bureaus, who discussed electronic components very closely with me -- my dear friends Ray Ho, Thomas Young and Jo Kuo.

That experience enabled me to access, evaluate and write on a whole lot of electronic components. Not to speak of getting to meet a whole lot of quality suppliers and buyers.

This blog is absolutely new, and no posts or content has been transferred from any of my earlier blogs.

This blog will cover active and passive components, optoelectronics and photonics, PCBs, electronic manufacturing equipment, electromechanical components, subassemblies and parts, etc.

My challenge is to get all of those quality suppliers across Asia here. Having spent a considerable time in the Greater China region, I know the buzz and the potential of that region. My other aim would be to help Indian companies find a space here. I know there are a whole lot of buyers out there, constantly searching for great sources of electronic components. In fact, I myself help some companies in India to source components from the Greater China region.

Wish me luck, dear friends, and thanks for all of your of support. Drop a line if you'd like me to add something.

Announcing PC's Electronics Blog

Welcome to PC's Electronics Blog!

Hi friends, in my quest to expand my network of blogs and sites, I am starting this blog on electronics.

Again, I need to share with you all that my career started off as a journalist at Electronics For You, way back in 1989. That's how my affair with electronics started!

Later, I had the privilege of being part of Global Sources, as well as Electronics Business Asia and Electronics Manufacturing Asia -- both at Reed Elsevier.

Given this background in electronics, it is apt for me to start a blog on this subject. This blog is absolutely new, and no posts have been transferred from any of my earlier blogs.

This blog will include specific blog posts related to electronics (and consumer electronics), as well as press releases, industry updates, new products, features, statistics, etc. It will cover electronics manufacturers, A/V products, automotive electronics, personal and office automation/electronics, access control and electronic security products, in-car entertainment electronics, displays, etc.

Thanks for your kind support as always. Suggestions for improvements are always welcome! :)

Announcing PC's Telecom Blog

Welcome to PC's Telecom Blog!

Hi friends, I've been thinking about adding a telecom blog to my network for a very long time! The reason being, I started my career in electronics and telecom back in 1989.

I had the privilege of being part of Asian Sources Telecom Products -- a site, which I managed and built, with the help of my team and colleagues at Asian Sources Media, and later, Global Sources. Later, I moved on to Wireless Week, USA, as Asia Pacific Editor for the Asian Edition.

Back in India, I managed Convergence Plus for a short while, before launching four sites for CIOL in 2004 -- Mobility, Networking, Storage and Security.

Given this background in telecommunications, it is apt for me to start a blog on this subject as well. Telecom has been my forte, and well, it is a subject that has also won me four awards in technology journalism, while at Global Sources.

Again, this blog has been spun out off my award winning blog! That blog remains unchanged, and will continue to carry top-quality, world class content!

This blogs will now include specific blog posts related to telecommunications, as well as press releases, industry updates, new products, features, statistics, etc. It will cover wireless, wireline, broadband, networking, optical networking, Test & Measurement, etc.

Thanks for your kind support as always. Suggestions for improvements are always welcome! :)

Separate blogs on semiconductors and solar/PV

Friends, based on feedback received from some of you, I have set up two new blogs.

1. PC's Semiconductors Blog

2. PC's Solar Photovoltaics Blog

These blogs have been spun out off my award winning blog! That blog remains unchanged, and will continue to carry top-quality, world class content!

These two blogs will now include specific blog posts related to either semicon or solar/PV from my award winning blog, other specific blog posts, as well as press releases, industry updates, statistics, etc.

Thanks for your kind support as always. Suggestions for improvements are always welcome! :)
